Export documentation checklistExport

Most export shipments need a commercial invoice and a packing list. Depending on the goods and destination you may also need a certificate of origin, permits or other certificates.

  • Commercial invoice
  • Packing list
  • Certificate of origin, where required
  • Permits or licences for regulated goods

Requirements vary, so confirm with our team before you ship.

HS codes explainedExport

An HS (Harmonized System) code classifies your goods. Customs use it to apply duties, taxes and rules. Use the correct code on your invoice, and ask us if you are unsure which one applies.

Sending product samplesExport

Samples usually travel by courier. Describe them clearly, state a value, and ask whether a commercial invoice is needed for your destination.

Courier, air or sea freight?Shipping

Courier suits documents and parcels. Air freight suits time-critical commercial cargo. Sea freight suits larger, less urgent cargo.

If you are unsure, tell us what you ship and we will recommend an option.

Bulky, light parcels are priced by size as well as weight. Volumetric weight is length × width × height (cm) divided by a divisor. The higher of actual and volumetric weight is usually the chargeable weight. The divisor varies by service.

Don't

  • Reuse crushed or damaged boxes for valuable items
  • Leave liquids or powders loose without sealing them
  • Overfill the box so the lid bulges
  • Leave old labels or barcodes on the box
  • Use string or cloth instead of proper tape
